Nokia 636 was a first generation of wireless cellular technology and it was released in 1995. It used AMPS network. The Nokia 636 featured monochrome display. It was powered by a Slim NiMH 470 mAh (BBT-6L) battery and/or 950 mAh (BBT-6S) extended NiCd battery.

The phone had four one-touch “Function Keys”, permanent signal strength indicator, permanent battery strength indicator, One-Touch emergency dialing, electronic phone lock, phone directory, memory scrolling, call timers, DTMF tone transmission and call waiting facilities.
